I don’t know if the 10 years I waited to read this third installment of Leo Caldas were worth it. The thing is that I really liked it.
I got the book before its release because someone procured me promotional copies, both in Galician and Spanish. I read it in Galician even though it hadn’t gone through the final revision, and I noticed it. There were some mistakes that, sometimes, hindered the natural flow of the reading.
Let’s get to the point.
The plot is very good and starts from the disappearance of Doctor Andrade’s daughter. It’s not known what became of her, if she’s dead or she escaped, until well into the book. Caldas, starting from the supposition that the woman is a widow, and not by choice, finds some suspects. But more or less until the end he doesn’t realize that a certain person could be the bad guy, because of certain clues that he starts to piece together.
And you cannot ignore the prologue.
The narration is not exactly real-time, but it’s very meticulous and that, I guess, explains the number of pages.
The characters are very good as always, especially Caldas’s father, and the interest is maintained until the end.
I highly recommend it and let’s hope we don’t have to wait so much time for the next one.
