El hombre del lago – Arnaldur Indridason

I’ve just finished it and, though it’s already the fourth one I read by this author and the Erlendur Sveinsson series, I haven’t quite warmed up to it.

It’s entertaining but there’s no suspense; the story always has its origin in the past when ancient human remains are found, and since the Commissioner is obsessed with disappearances, he insists on investigating and solving the case. What happens is that many times it’s more by intuition than anything else, as it happens this time.

There’s also always a parallel narration of the events that triggered the murder that’s being solved; I never liked jumping from one story to another.

On the other hand, he focuses too much on the personal lives of the protagonists, especially Erlendur’s and his problems with his children.

Adding everything up, the book is a bit scattered and, though as I said it’s entertaining and a fast read, from my point of view, it doesn’t quite come together.
