EN-Samhain – Henar Casal

This post is also available in: Spanish

It’s an entertaining book for people who like this kind of stories and I admit I like them.

It’s an original idea, because it’s different, though reading it I was reminded of stories like Harry Potter, the Twilight saga, the A Discovery of Witches trilogy and some other fantasy novels, with varied magical beings of different classes confronted and fighting for power. It should be acknowledged that the author doesn’t lack imagination and she uses Irish mythology and folklore (fairies, elves…) to tie up a very interesting story. The literary quality, however, leaves room for improvement and the edition (style editing, punctuation…) has some conspicuous mistakes that sometimes hinder the flow of the reading.

It’s quite an endearing story, with characters that are different. There are good ones and bad ones, and the bad ones are very very bad. The chapter of Barcelona seems a bit exaggerated and confusing but, besides that, a happy ending that you would expect from this kind of tale.
