EN-El misterio de Chalk Hill – Susanne Goga

Pretty disappointing because, even though it’s not an original idea, it could’ve been more deeply developed.

It really feels like a bad copy of Jane Eyre. It doesn’t make you dive into the story and recreate the proper atmosphere. The worst part about it is that, at the end, the author admits that it’s inspired or based on that novel. Of course there are other variations on the original, but this one is not on the same level.

The plot is treated very superficially and it didn’t spark any interest in me at any point. If you’ve read Jane Eyre, everything is very predictable despite having some variations: the supposed suicide of the little girl’s mother, the spiritualism… The spiritualism is something that could’ve been left out, since it doesn’t really have anything to do with the main story, though it serves as a pretext to introduce a character that very forcibly ends up with the protagonist.

The writing is very correct, but it doesn’t transmit anything.

And regarding the ending, you can guess everything from very early on. I honestly finished it because I made me do it, but I wouldn’t recommend it.
