El juez ciego – Bruce Alexander

It’s good. The plot is good, but not too original; moreover, as I read it, it kept reminding me of “El misterio de Layton Court”, which I read not long ago, because the circumstances in which the crimes occur in both novels are tremendously similar and the investigations also have common ground. They’re the classic locked room crimes.

I liked this one better. It’s less light, less shallow. The characters, both Judge Fielding and his young assistant, Proctor, are well defined from the beginning. The plot is well developed and the judge’s blindness brings originality and merit to the story. The role of Proctor, who acts as the eyes of the judge, is a little reminiscent of Nero Wolfe’s Archie Goodwin, who, though he’s not blind, never leaves home to work and needs someone to be his eyes and ears and whatever he needs.

Recommended.
